Who I am and why I built this
I’m John Kenel.
I bought my first rental in Cambridge back in 1997. Still own it.
Since then, I’ve developed more than 1,000 homes across Hamilton and Cambridge through my company Assured Property. I’ve been through booms, busts, rate hikes, rate cuts, and everything in between. I’ve dealt with every council headache you can imagine. And I’m still here building today.
I built this course because most people never get shown how development actually works.
They guess. They hope. Or worse, they get burnt.
This course is my way of helping more Kiwis get ahead — especially the hardworking ones who just want a fair shot at building something for their future.
Why I started The Property Development Club
I am not in this to sell courses. Property has already been good to me. This is about sharing what I know so others can have a crack too.
The more builders, tradies, investors and regular people who can take a site and turn it into good housing, the better. If more Kiwis know how to do a minor dwelling, a duplex or a block of townhouses, we get more supply and better choices. That helps lift home ownership and gives people better options in the future.
This is not just a course. It is a movement to train up a new wave of small developers across New Zealand.
